Amberly and the Pink Rabbit: A Lesson in Safety

Amberly and the Pink Rabbit: A Lesson in Safety

Amberly was a little girl with curly hair and big brown eyes. She loved nothing more than playing with her favourite toy, a fluffy pink rabbit with floppy ears. She would take it everywhere she went, even on trips to the supermarket and trips to the park. One day, Amberly and her Mama were walking across the busy road to get to the park. Amberly held tightly onto her Mama’s hand, but was distracted by a group of kids playing on the other side of the road. Suddenly, she let go of Mama’s hand and ran across the road, right into the path of a speeding car. The car screeched to a halt just in time, but Mama’s heart was in her mouth. She scolded Amberly for not holding her hand and told her it was very dangerous to run into the road like that. Amberly felt very ashamed and sorry for what she had done. She hugged her Mama tightly and promised never to disobey her again. Mama forgave her, but warned her to be more careful from now on. That night, as Amberly was getting ready for bed, she looked at her pink rabbit and thought about how something she loved so much could have caused her so much trouble. She realised that her rabbit was just a toy, and not worth risking her life for. From that day on, Amberly always held Mama’s hand when they crossed the road. And her pink rabbit became just another toy in her collection, instead of her most prized possession. She learned an important lesson that day – that sometimes the things we love can distract us from what's really important, like our safety and the people who care about us.
