Grandpa Jerome's Tree Fall

Once upon a time, when I was three years old, people used to ask me my name, and I would proudly say, "Eu sou a Liva, ele é o Zoel." My dad, Irani, would always tell me stories about when he was little, just like us.

Now, my dad always had a yellow dog named Bobi, and he had so many stories about him. But today, I want to tell you a different story. This one is about my grandpa Jerome and what happened when he fell from a tree!

My dad would always start his stories by saying, "Quando eu era ultra jovem," which means "When I was very young." So here we go!

It was a beautiful and chilly winter day. Grandpa Jerome said, "Son, you and Bobi stay inside where it's warm. I'm going to the forest to get some pine nuts." You see, grandpa loved collecting pine nuts.

He climbed the tallest tree because it had the most pine nuts. As he sat on a branch, reaching for a big pinecone, a chubby monkey appeared. It smiled and made a funny sound, "ik ik."

Grandpa said, "Go to another branch, you chubby monkey." But the monkey just smiled back. Suddenly, grandpa heard a cracking sound, and before he knew it, the branch broke!

Down they all went—grandpa, the branch, and the monkey with its long tail, grabbing onto another branch. But grandpa and the branch, well, they didn't have tails. They fell from way up high and landed with a big puff on the ground.

Grandpa let out a loud sound, "uuuuuuufff," and lay on his back. The monkey came down from the tree and approached him. Grandpa whispered, "Bring me some water."

The monkey ran to the river, made a cup out of a yam leaf, and brought it to grandpa. He drank and drank and said, "Thank you." The monkey smiled and quickly ran back into the forest, never to be seen again.

And so, the moral of the story is: "If you don't have a tail, don't climb the tallest tree." Grandpa Jerome learned his lesson that day!

So remember, my dear friend, it's important to be careful and think before we climb. And always listen to the wise words of grandpas and grandmas. The end.
