Percy the Panda and His Love for Ice Cream
Once upon a time, there was a little panda named Percy. Percy loved many things, but above all, he loved ice cream. He loved the creamy texture, the coldness, and the bright rainbow colors. He had tasted every flavor, from vanilla bean to blueberry cheesecake.
One summer afternoon, as Percy was wandering through the bamboo groves of his home, he stumbled across an ice cream truck. The truck was parked on the side of the road, surrounded by children all screaming and laughing with their tongues blue, green, and red.
Percy felt a pang in his stomach. He wanted ice cream so badly. "Excuse me?" he asked, tugging on the pant leg of the ice cream man. "Do you have any bamboo flavored ice cream?"
The ice cream man squinted down at Percy, surprised at the sight of a talking panda. "No, we don't have that flavor," he said, shaking his head. "But we do have chocolate, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, and so much more."
Percy felt a little disappointed but decided to settle for chocolate. As he was waiting for his cone, he noticed a group of bees gathering around a nearby tree, their tiny wings buzzing with excitement.
Curious, Percy wandered over to see what the commotion was about. To his surprise, he saw that the tree was covered in thick, golden honey.
Percy's eyes widened. He loved honey almost as much as ice cream. He was so tempted to climb the tree and sample some of the honey, but he knew he shouldn't. It wouldn't be polite.
As he was pondering, an idea hit him. He could trade his ice cream for some honey! He approached the bees, his mouth watering. "Excuse me," he said, trying his best to sound polite. "Would any of you like some ice cream in exchange for some honey?"
The bees looked at Percy skeptically, their heads tilted. "Hmm, we don't know," one said, rubbing its antennas. "We've never had ice cream before. Is it good?"
Percy's heart sank. How could the bees not know what ice cream was? It was the best thing in the whole world! Determined to change their minds, Percy offered them a taste of his ice cream.
To his surprise, the bees loved it! They buzzed and danced around Percy in delight, licking the chocolate from their tiny wings. As a reward, they even gave Percy a jar of their precious honey.
Percy was thrilled. He had discovered a new way to get his favorite foods! He could trade his ice cream for honey, and eat as many cones as his heart desired. But as he walked away from the ice cream truck, something strange happened.
His stomach began to ache, and his fur started to feel prickly. He felt a sudden urge to run and climb trees. That's when he realized the horrible truth.
The bees had spiked his ice cream with pollen! Percy had never tasted pollen before, but he could tell that he was already experiencing its effects. He was turning into a BEAR!
Percy panicked. He didn't want to end up as a bear. He liked being a panda, thank you very much! He ran back to the ice cream truck, frantically searching for an antidote.
The ice cream man saw Percy's distress and chuckled. "Oh, dear little panda," he said, holding out a small jar of honey. "This should do the trick. It's the purest honey from the hills of China, and it will make you feel right as a rain."
Percy was hesitant at first, but he trusted the ice cream man. He chugged down the honey, and suddenly, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. His fur settled back into place, and his aches and pains vanished.
Percy was so grateful that he hugged the ice cream man, leaving a trail of chocolate smears on the man's shirt. From that day on, Percy never traded his ice cream for honey again. He learned that sometimes, the things we love can be the very things that harm us. It's always best to stick to what we know and love.
