Ava: The Nerd Superhero

Meet Ava, a little African American girl with big glasses and a love for books. Ava was a nerd in school, which meant she loved to learn and always raised her hand to answer questions. Some of the other kids at school would make fun of her for being so smart, but Ava didn’t let it bother her. One day, Ava noticed something not right on the schoolyard. She saw a group of kids teasing a smaller boy, taking his toy and laughing at him. Ava knew she had to do something. She didn’t have super powers or a fancy costume, but she knew she could be a superhero in her own way. Ava walked over to the kids and asked them to stop. She told them that it wasn’t nice to tease someone and take their things. The kids looked at her in surprise, but they listened. They gave the toy back to the little boy and walked away. The little boy looked up at Ava with a big smile and said, “Thank you, Ava!” From that day on, Ava kept an eye out for anyone being bullied on the schoolyard. She would step in and stand up for them, just like a real superhero. The other kids started to see Ava in a new light. They realized that being smart and kind was something to be admired, not made fun of. Ava may have been a nerd in school, but she was also a superhero fighting injustice on the schoolyard. She showed the other kids that bullying was not okay, and that everyone deserved to be treated with kindness and respect. And as for Ava, she was proud to be both a nerd and a superhero. She knew that she could make a difference in the world, one act of kindness at a time.
