Delightful Doorways: A Journey Through Openings
Doors, doors, I never realized how much we needed them before! Up and over doors, are garage doors, with a motor and a spring we push a button and they do their magical thing which is open and close. If there were no oven doors, our moms wouldn't bake all those wonderful pies and cakes. Jump into the shower and close the door. If there were no door, think of all the water flooding the floor.
Houses have a front door and a back door. Can you imagine your home without doors? Strangers would arrive who would never knock for there would be no door. Animals would appear and pass the welcome mat and tip their hats. Into the kitchen they would go, and so they would say, "Hate to eat and run, sure had fun." What! No back door? Where would you run when the strangers all come?
Slowly... I open the basement door as it squeaks. Stepping down and down I go into the dark filled hole. A light I find, and now this is a less scary space. Open boxes of games, and toys that bring such joy. Doors open into places that are fun to explore. Attic doors are in the ceiling not the floor. Ladder folds down and up into this place I climb that smells of dust and rust. A guitar Doors without strings, bicycle without a seat, and many pairs of shoes that used to fit my tiny feet. Look out below! Falling down a trap door would not be a fun place to explore. Lions, tigers, and bears might be waiting there.
Automatic doors, magic as you say "Open sesame!," clap your hands and they follow your every command. Into the grocery store, a great place to explore. Or, into the airport to catch a plane that will fly high into the sky, I'm glad it has a door. Can you imagine a plane without a Door?
Revolving doors can be a chore, with two or more going around and around. You will become dizzy as you look at the ground.
Barn doors are fun to open and explore. In stalls behind yet another door, you will find horses, cows with bells, spiders in corners, bales of hay, and a great place to play. In days of the past, Greeks and Romans had a blast. Doors made of bronze and gold, strong and bold. They were the first to make such a door. Thank goodness for those Roman and Greeks, I bet their doors did squeak.
Castle doors, open and explore, you will find a King and Queen inviting you to sit and eat an honorary feast. For you have just slain the big ugly beast.
Now let me see, closet doors, yes hide all that mess that we deplore. Can't imagine that awful chore. When I open my closet door, balls, games, and trains come crashing down upon my brain.
Push door has a name that I never knew before. It's called a Butterfly door, you push in and you're out of the wind.
Doors, doors, I never realized how much we needed them before. I look around and they are everywhere to be found. Some doors are tall, for those giants that play basketball. Then there are small doors for wee little houses for those wee little mouses.
Doors are on cars, trains and fire trucks that have huge ladders that rise up high into the sky, to help those that are stuck.
Now just a bit more about the world of doors. I adore doors, for without them life would be tranquil no more! When your parents snore, you close your door.
Open a garden door, there is a lot to explore. Flowers of every color, red, yellow and blue. Wait there is more to see, snakes of green, ants that are black, and a very large fat cat taking a nap.
Doors, doors, keep us safe in our special place. Whether it's home, or on a rocketship flying to Mars and someday to the bright twinkling stars in the night sky.
It is certain that we do need doors. Think of a French door, open and on the other side, a woman with a very large hat, and a French Poodle on her lap.
Oops! I hear your parents yell out, "Close the refrigerator door, you're letting all the cold air out and about."
Now to finally wrap this up the most special little door is the one to your heart. Open that door and let love in and let love out, and you shall never be without.
