Emotions and Me: Mikey's Feelings Adventure
Hi, my name is Mikey! I am 8 years old, and I am learning about emotions. Emotions are feelings we all have, and it’s important to understand them. Today, I will learn about different emotions, how they make me feel physically, and how to deal with them.
When I feel happy, my heart feels light, and I might smile a lot. I feel like jumping or laughing, and I can share my happiness with friends or family. I can also keep a happiness journal where I write or draw things that make me smile.
Sometimes, I feel sad. My eyes might feel teary, and my body can feel heavy. I may want to curl up or be alone. I can talk to someone I trust about how I feel. I can also listen to music or do something comforting, like reading a book or drawing.
When I feel angry, my cheeks might get hot, and I can feel tense in my body. I might want to stomp my feet or shout. I can take deep breaths, count to ten, or walk away from the situation for a moment. Talking about my feelings can also help me feel better.
When I feel nervous, my belly might flutter, and I might feel shaky. I could have sweaty palms or a racing heart. I can practice deep breathing, tell myself that it’s okay to feel nervous, and visualize something calming. It helps to talk to someone I trust about what’s making me nervous.

Feeling excited is wonderful! My heart races, and I might have butterflies in my stomach. I feel like I want to jump around. I can share my excitement with others, plan what I want to do, or write it down in my journal. It’s fun to express how I feel!
When I feel scared, I might have a lump in my throat, and I could feel shaky. My heart might beat really fast. I can remind myself that it’s okay to feel scared. I can talk to a trusted adult or friend, and use my imagination to think of brave things I can do.
Understanding my emotions is important. It helps me know what I’m feeling and how to handle it. Whenever I experience these feelings, I can remember the physical signs and ways to cope. It’s okay to have all these emotions; they are part of being me!
So, I’ve learned that it’s super important to know our feelings! When we understand what we’re feeling and how our bodies react, it helps us deal with those feelings better. It’s totally okay to have all kinds of emotions! Talking to friends or family about how we feel can make us feel happier and more understood. Emotions are a normal part of being us, and learning to handle them makes us even stronger!
