### Petra’s Rainy Day Rescue

Pitter-patter. Pitter-patter. The rain tapped against the windows as Petra sat on the living room floor. She sighed loudly. “I’m bored,” she said, resting her chin in her hands.

Sam, her little brother, was lying on the rug, making a tower out of blocks. Whiskers, their fluffy orange cat, was curled up nearby, swishing his tail now and then.

“Look at the raindrops!” Sam said. “They’re racing down the window!”

Petra leaned closer to watch. Suddenly, her eyes grew wide. “Wait! There’s something outside!” She pointed to the backyard.

Sam and Whiskers scrambled to the window. In the middle of a puddle was a magpie, flapping its wings and squawking. “It’s stuck!” Petra said.

Without thinking twice, Petra grabbed her raincoat. “Let’s go help!” she said, tugging Sam’s hand. Whiskers followed, his tail held high.

Outside, the rain splashed on their boots as they dashed toward the magpie. The poor bird was tangled in a piece of string, its wing pinned to the ground.

“It’s okay, little bird,” Petra said gently. “We’re here to help.”

“I’ll watch for trouble,” Sam whispered, standing guard with a big stick—just in case. Whiskers sat nearby, his green eyes locked on the magpie. He was supervising, of course.

Carefully, Petra untangled the string from the magpie’s wing. “There you go,” she said, giving the bird a little pat. The magpie flapped its wings and flew up to a tree branch.

As the rain slowed, Petra noticed something shiny on the ground. “Look!” she gasped. The magpie had left them a gift—a smooth, silver button!

“Wow!” Sam said. “It’s a treasure!”

Petra smiled. “Helping feels really good. Even on rainy days!”

Whiskers purred in agreement.

The rain stopped, and so did their boredom.
