Beru and Dot’s Backyard Adventure: The Kindness Treasure

**Beru and Dot’s Treasure Hunt**

Beru, the floppy-eared dog, wagged his tail as he sniffed around the backyard. Dot, his best friend, and a curious little girl, was digging in the dirt with her favorite pink shovel. “Beru, look!” Dot suddenly gasped, holding up a crumpled piece of paper.

Beru tilted his head. “What’s that?” he seemed to ask with a bark. Dot unfolded the paper. It had funny squiggly lines, a big red “X,” and pictures of trees and houses.

“It’s a treasure map!” Dot exclaimed. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. “Let’s find the treasure!”

Beru barked happily and wagged his tail even harder. The adventure had begun!

Dot studied the map. “First, we go across the river!” she said. They looked at the puddle by the garden hose.

Beru didn’t like getting wet, but Dot had an idea. “Jump, Beru! Like this!” She leaped over the puddle, and Beru followed with a big splash. They both giggled (well, Dot giggled, and Beru wagged).

Next, the map showed a mountain. Dot pointed to a pile of cushions on the patio. “That must be it!” she said. Climbing the “mountain” was tricky. Dot helped push Beru up with a giggle and a grunt. “We did it!”

Suddenly, a squirrel darted by and stopped to watch them. “Hi, squirrel!” Dot said, holding out a crumb from her pocket. The squirrel sniffed it, twitched its nose, and scampered away. “Bye, friend!” Dot waved.

Finally, they reached the big red “X” on the map. It led them to a patch of dirt under a tree. “Dig here!” Dot said. Beru helped with his paws, flinging dirt everywhere.

Thud! Dot’s shovel hit something. They pulled out a dusty, old wooden box. Inside were toys—Dot’s toys from long ago!

Dot smiled and patted Beru’s head. “This isn’t pirate gold, but it’s still treasure. Let’s share these toys with kids who need them!”

Beru barked as if to say, “Great idea!” Their treasure hunt was over, but their adventure had just begun—sharing their treasure with others!

And that was the best treasure of all.
