The Case of the Knitting Squirrel

One sunny morning, Dot woke up to find something strange. Tiny pieces of colorful yarn were scattered all over the house! There were red bits under the table, green pieces by the couch, and a long blue thread leading out the door. Dot’s eyes lit up. “Beru, Polka! It looks like we have a mystery to solve!”

Beru, the bouncy puppy, wagged his tail and sniffed the yarn. “Woof! Yarn smells funny!” Polka, the chatty parrot, flapped her wings and squawked, “A clue! A clue!”

The three friends followed the trail. Dot picked up the pieces as they went. First, the yarn led them out of the house. Then, past the big tree. Finally, the trail stopped at the door to the garden shed.

Dot creaked the door open, and inside, they found the culprit: a squirrel! But not just any squirrel. This squirrel was sitting on a tiny stool, holding knitting needles, and working on a scarf!

The squirrel squeaked and froze when it saw them. Dot crouched down. “Hi there, little squirrel. Are you knitting?”

The squirrel nodded and held up its scarf. It was yellow and a bit lopsided, but Dot thought it looked wonderful. “Are you trying to stay warm?” she asked.

The squirrel nodded again, shivering a little.

Polka squawked, “Cold squirrel! Cold squirrel!”

Beru barked, “More yarn! More yarn!”

Dot smiled. “Don’t worry, we’ll help!”

Dot, Beru, and Polka hurried back to the house. They found soft old blankets and lots of colorful yarn. Dot showed the squirrel how to knit without tangling the yarn, and soon they had a cozy scarf. But then Dot had an idea. “What if we make blankets and scarves for all the animals in the neighborhood?”

The team got to work, and the squirrel helped too. By the end of the day, they had warm gifts for the bunnies, raccoons, birds, and even the hedgehogs.

That night, Dot looked out the window and smiled. The glowing mystery was solved, and now, all their animal friends were snug and warm.

“Good job, team!” Dot said, and Beru barked, “Woof-woof!” Polka chirped, “Mystery solved!”

And the squirrel squeaked happily in its brand-new scarf.
