# Jerry and Tom's Big Chase

In a cosy little house at the end of Cherry Lane lived a small grey mouse named Jerry. He had bright button eyes and a twitchy pink nose that could smell cheese from miles away.

Jerry shared the house with Tom, a large orange cat with green eyes and a grumpy face. Tom was always cross, especially when he spotted Jerry.

"This house isn't big enough for both of us!" Tom would growl whenever he saw Jerry scurrying across the floor.

Every morning, Jerry would sneak into the kitchen for breakfast crumbs. And every morning, Tom would wake up and chase him.

"Pitter-patter, pitter-patter," went Jerry's tiny feet. "Thump-thump, thump-thump," went Tom's big paws.

One Tuesday morning, Jerry was extra hungry. He spotted a piece of cheese on the table.

"That looks yummy," Jerry whispered, climbing up the table leg.

Just as Jerry reached for the cheese, he heard a loud "MEOW!"

Tom had found him!

Jerry grabbed the cheese and zoomed down the table leg. He dashed under the sofa, through the bookshelf, and behind the television.

Tom followed, knocking over a plant pot and bumping into a chair.

"I'm too tired for this," puffed Tom, flopping down on the rug.

Jerry peeked out from behind the television. Tom looked sad and out of breath.

"Maybe Tom is just hungry too," thought Jerry.

That night, Jerry left half his cheese outside Tom's basket with a little note that said: "Friends?"

When Tom woke up, he found the cheese and the note. His grumpy face turned into a smile.

Now, Tom and Jerry still chase each other around the house, but it's a game they both enjoy.

And sometimes, they even share cheese for breakfast.
