Morris Mouse's First Delivery

Right then, let's begin!

Morris Mouse wriggled his whiskers nervously. Today was a BIG day! It was his very first day working at "The Cheese Dreams Delivery Company". His uniform, a tiny red waistcoat and a miniature peaked cap, felt a bit scratchy, but he puffed out his chest with pride.

Mr. Nibbles, the boss mouse, a plump fellow with a very shiny nose, pointed a paw at a miniature wheelbarrow piled high with cheddar chunks. "Right, Morris," he squeaked. "Your first delivery! Mrs. Bumble, number four Poppy Lane. Off you pop!"

Morris, feeling braver now, grabbed the handles. The wheelbarrow was heavier than he expected! He strained and wobbled, finally getting it moving. He puffed and panted all the way down the lane.

He found number four, a lovely little mushroom house. He knocked politely with his tiny fist. Mrs. Bumble, a very fluffy bumblebee, opened the door. "Oh, hello, little mouse! And what have we here?"

Morris, out of breath, managed a squeak. "Cheese...delivery...from...Cheese Dreams!"

Mrs. Bumble smiled. "Oh, you poor dear! That wheelbarrow looks ever so heavy. And look, you've dropped a bit!" She pointed to a small cheddar chunk that had tumbled out along the way.

Morris's ears drooped. He'd made a mistake already!

Mrs. Bumble, seeing his sad little face, said, "Don't you worry your whiskers! Tell you what, why don't you take out one more piece of cheese? That way, the wheelbarrow will be lighter for you to push back. And you can have the extra piece as a little treat!"

Morris's face lit up. He carefully took out another chunk, gave Mrs. Bumble her cheese, and thanked her. He carefully ate his treat.

The wheelbarrow was much easier to push now! He skipped all the way back to Cheese Dreams, feeling much more confident. Mr. Nibbles gave him a pat on the head. "Well done, Morris! See? It's not so scary after all. And next time, maybe we'll give you a smaller wheelbarrow!"

Morris Mouse grinned. He couldn't wait for his second day at work.
