The Giant Town Cake
One sunny morning, a giant cake appeared in the town square! It was taller than a house and wider than a bus. All the children gasped. "Wow!" said Lily. "How will we ever eat it?" asked Tom.
They ran to the cake and tried to cut it. Tom pulled out his toy sword. "Ching!" It only made a tiny scratch. Lily had a skipping rope. She tried to saw through the cake. "Squeak, squeak!" It didn't work.
"It's too big!" cried Tom.
Lily thought hard. "I know!" she said. "We need to measure it!"
She found a long, stripy ribbon. Together, they walked all the way around the cake, measuring its size. Then, they folded the ribbon in half, and in half again, and again until they had lots of equal pieces.
They used the ribbon to mark the cake. The grown-ups helped them cut along the marks. Soon, everyone in town had a piece of the giant cake. It was strawberry flavoured and delicious! Tom and Lily smiled. They had solved the problem of the giant town cake.
