Big Feelings, Big Love: Sloane's Special Day

Big Feelings, Big Love: Sloane's Special Day

Sloane woke up feeling excited for the day ahead. She was going to spend the whole day with her baby sister Iona, her older cousin Isabel, and her younger cousins Cody and Sophie. They were going to have so much fun together! But first, Sloane had to get dressed. She tried to tie her shoes, but it was so hard! She felt frustrated and wanted to cry. Daddy Scott came to help her, and they played a game where they pretended to throw away all the frustration. Sloane felt better and was ready to start her day.

At daycare, Mummy Sam had to leave for work. Sloane felt sad to say goodbye, but Mummy Sam gave her a big hug and told her she would be back soon. Sloane felt a little better, knowing Mummy Sam would come back to pick her up.

In the park, the cousins built a huge sandcastle together. But then, Isabel accidentally knocked it down. Sloane felt so angry! But Daddy Scott showed her how to take deep breaths and count to ten. Sloane felt calmer and decided to build an even bigger sandcastle. She felt happy when she saw how amazing it turned out.

Then, it was time to play on the slide. Sophie and Iona were scared to go down, but Sloane showed them how much fun it was. She felt proud to help her little cousins. As the day came to an end, Sloane realised that she had felt so many big feelings. But by talking about them and asking for help, she had learned so much. She felt calm, safe, and loved with her family by her side.

As she snuggled up with her family at bedtime, Sloane knew that it was brave to use her words to name how she felt. Happy, sad, angry, scared, or frustrated—talking about those feelings and asking for help always helped her feel better. And most of all, she knew she was always surrounded by love and safety.
