Squeaky's Bright Idea
Squeaky the squirrel loved to jump around the streetlights in Bali. He would dart and dash from one light to the next, using them as his own personal obstacle course. The people walking below would often stop and watch in amazement as Squeaky performed his acrobatic feats.
One warm evening, as Squeaky was leaping from one streetlight to another, there was a sudden flicker and then the lights went out. A power cut had plunged the entire street into darkness.
Squeaky was startled. He had never experienced darkness like this before. He scampered down the pole and onto the ground, his little heart beating fast. The people on the street were also surprised and confused by the sudden blackout. Without the streetlights, they couldn't see where they were going.
As the night went on, Squeaky could see the people getting anxious. They were using their phones as torches, but the battery was running out quickly. Squeaky felt sorry for them. He wished there was something he could do to help.
Suddenly, he had an idea. Squeaky started to scurry around, gathering up fallen leaves and twigs. He piled them up near the base of the streetlights and then used his sharp little teeth to break open some coconuts. He placed the pieces of coconut on top of the pile of leaves and twigs and then, with a quick flick of his tail, he set them alight.
The people on the street watched in amazement as Squeaky's improvised torches illuminated the darkness. They gathered around the makeshift bonfires, their faces bathed in the warm glow. Squeaky felt proud to have been able to help.
As the night wore on, the power still hadn't come back on. But the people didn't feel so afraid anymore. They sang songs and told stories, huddled around the flickering flames.
Finally, as the first light of dawn began to creep over the horizon, the power came back on. The streetlights blinked back to life, and the people cheered. Squeaky had never seen such a beautiful sight.
As the people started to disperse, one of them, a little girl, approached Squeaky. She reached out and gently stroked his fur. "Thank you, Squeaky," she said with a smile. "You helped us through a dark night."
Squeaky felt a warm glow in his heart as he watched the girl walk away. He had learned something important that night - even the smallest of creatures can make a big difference in the world. And as he leapt back up onto the streetlight, he knew that he would always be there to help whenever he was needed.
